Winning Bets with Math

Werner Joho wurde 1938 in Baden in der Schweiz geboren. Wie Einstein besuchte er das Gymnasium in Aarau und studierte nachher Physik an der ETH in Zürich. Er sammelte über die Jahre viele mathematische Kuriositäten und Rätsel. Eine Auswahl davon ist in diesem Büchlein zusammengefasst. Viele Kapitel sind auch für einen allgemein interessierten Leser verständlich. Als Hobby entwickelte der Autor mit zwei Kollegen ein Computer-Schachprogramm. 1968 spielte dieses Programm eine historische Partie gegen ein Schachprogram des MIT in Boston via Amateurfunk über den Atlantik. Das amerikanische Programm gewann nach 41 Zügen.
